was recently honored at the “Coolest in LA” Awards, A Celebration of Innovation in Southern California’s Fight Against Climate Change. “Coolest in LA” shines a spotlight on five”cool” projects that are helping LA and California lead the world in the fight against climate change. Rayton Solar
was specifically recognized for its revolutionary research in solar cell efficiency
Breakthrough Solar Cell Technology Boosts Solar Efficiency
Our particle accelerator, arriving this Spring, is a revolutionary technology that we are leveraging to produce breakthrough solar powered products that happen to be easy on the environment. With it, we will significantly boost solar cell efficiency and cost-effectiveness of today’s industry-standard solar cells, which are limited by silicon cost and waste. Silicon is the most expensive part of a solar panel and in order to make it, conventional solar cell manufacturers must saw off a thick piece of silicon, leaving behind waste in the form of silicon dust. This waste byproduct is an environmental and economic burden – driving up the cost of solar panels. Addressing this issue of waste caused by solar panel production is critical for the future of solar energy.
The green energy movement is an exciting time and a major reason for investing in solar energy—
far too often the issue of pollutants formed by the panels’ production is left of conversations about solar panel return on investment. In additional to wasted silicon, many solar energy
companies are accumulating millions of pounds of polluted sludge and contaminated water in spite being backed by government incentives that reward alternative energy companies. This waste is often transported from these solar panel facilities hundreds or thousands of miles away—a double dose of pollution
In stark contrast, instead of tackling the ways in which to reduce or recycle the waste from made by existing solar panel facilities, Rayton Solar looked hard at preventive solutions within the silicon-cutting process and found a method to reduce waste AND save on solar panel costs.
